New, More Enticing(?) Contact Page

16 Feb

At the beginning of the year, I set the ambitious goal of helping 100 new people through this blog. Unfortunately, according to my site stats, my contact page has been languishing. (Bio and About do great, but Contact . . . not so much.)

And so, with the sound of Robin Hoodian trumpets, I present the text of the newly christened I Help U! tab:

I started this blog to help people. It’s that simple. I, Dennis Cass, want to help U, dear Reader, become a better writer, artist, rodeo clown, whatever.

Said help takes many forms. The most common is the reader question. Drop me an e-mail at dennis<dot>cass<at>gmail<dot>com and I will answer your question with an eye toward increased awesomeness.

In some cases, I get more involved.

We might talk through an idea you’re struggling with, or I might give you feedback on a proposal you’re writing.

I might offer some insight into how to decide between agents, or deliver a rousing pep talk on the benefits of a healthy diet and daily exercise.

There are no rules for this project other than the ones we invent as we go along, but it lives and dies with you.

Please take that first step. I joke around a lot, but in this case I’m not kidding.

Better?

Better. Are you going to add one of those thermometer graphics showing how many people you have helped be more awesome in 2009?

Are you on twitter? That could up your Help U hits… Actually, I’ll try to raise my own awesomeness level right now and go over and twit a link for you. ;)

    Hi Dennis,

I haven’t said hi in a while. I like the clean, fresh look of your blog – and you caught my attention with the ‘decide between agents’ thing.

I don’t have my blog on my profile, but in case you wanna visit, it’s: http://theirishhill.blogspot.com/

I bet you know a lot of the writers on the blog, and I can tell you, we’re a close group. Hope to see you there – if you come visit us, I bet your visitors grow, because my writing friends are very…well…friendly.

@Lars: Love the thermometer idea. Investigating.

@pseudosu: Twitter will have to wait until next year. This year is dedicated to learning Photoshop and iMovie, doing more with Facebook and, of course, DCWYTBMA.

@Robin: Nice to see you again. I do recognize a lot of names on your site. Keep up the good work.

Perhaps it is mental to admit, but such offers of help unsettle me. I tend to think I’ve misunderstood or the person doesn’t mean it. Or like they anyone, but me. Therapy would probably help with this attitude, but I don’t think I’m going into that anytime soon.

A few weeks ago I left a comment about my art and book idea. You said to let you know how it worked out. The art festival hasn’t happened yet, and everything is being worked on, but if you had any insight, ideas, suggestions, whatever, I’d be happy to hear them.

I’d love to be awesome, thank you.

“Awesome” class U of M, Winter 2008 as I recall. Very happy to rediscover your (revitalized) site. Hope it flies. We can learn a lot from you. Best wishes…
